Andy Murray swapped his tennis racquet for a golf club on Wednesday as he took part in the BMW Championship Pro-Am at Wentworth.
The two-time Wimbledon champion brought his glittering tennis career to an end last month, but he hasn’t lost his appetite for competitive sport.
Murray teamed up with fellow countryman and golf professional Robert MacIntyre on Wednesday for the star-studded celebrity pro-am event on the famous West Course.
Murray has long been a fan of playing a round of 18 holes whenever time allowed and his Twitter bio now states: “I played tennis, I now play golf.”
He retired after the Paris Olympics this summer at the age of 37 – bringing the curtain down on a career that saw him win three grand slam titles and two Olympic gold medals.
Murray’s playing partner, MacIntyre, was part of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team last year and followed that up with a first PGA Tour win at the Canadian Open and further success at the Scottish Open in 2024.
MacIntyre told Sky Sports: “Andy is a hero to so many people in Scotland – and across the world – and it’s pretty exciting to be playing alongside him in his BMW PGA Championship debut.
“He’s been absolutely dedicated to tennis during his incredible career, but it looks like he’s been playing plenty of golf since his retirement, so I’m looking forward to seeing if all that practice has paid off.”
Other celebrity names taking part in the event include footballers Gareth Bale, Jordan Pickford and Troy Deeney, cricketers James Anderson and Ollie Pope, TV star and comedian Michael MacIntyre and Hollywood actor Tom Holland.
