Ange Postecoglou insists his focus is on Celtic amid links to Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou has shrugged off links with Spurs, insisting he is concentrating on a strong end to the season with Celtic and a treble triumph.

The Australian has been repeatedly linked mentioned as a candidate for the vacancy left by Antonio Conte at Spurs but recent reports have Postecoglou becoming the leading contender for the job after it became clear Arne Slot would not be leaving Feyenoord.

Asked if he was aware of the speculation regarding his future, the Celtic boss acknowledged the talk but said he wouldn’t let it deter him from preparations for this weekend’s final league game against Aberdeen, and the Scottish Cup final against Inverness that could complete a clean sweep of domestic trophies.

“I’m aware of it because everybody keeps asking me about it,” Postecoglou said. “In the past I think I’ve been pretty clear, it’s just not the way I think or work.

“My priority right lies around making sure we have a special day tomorrow. We’ve got a big cup final coming up in a week’s time.

“I’m not going to sit there and get distracted by things that are fascinating for other people rather than myself.

“That’s where my focus is and where it will continue to be. We’ve got a couple of big games and we’ve had a successful season and we have an opportunity to make it a really special one.”

Postecoglou has now won back-to-back league titles and two League Cups since arriving from Yokohama F Marinos two years ago and can complete the treble at Hampden next week. But asked if his view on other jobs changed because he had already achieved a lot in Scotland, the 57-year-old said there was always a new challenge.

“That doesn’t really change,” he said. “There’s always stuff to achieve.

“As a football club you have that responsibility here to have success and to play football a certain way. That doesn’t change.

“Just because we won a double last year doesn’t mean we went in o this year thinking we didn’t have to be strong. We have to be stronger. The challenge is always there irrespective of what you’ve achieved so far.

“If ever you lose that focus you’ll probably find yourself out of a job because that’s the demand this football club places on the people who represent it.

“Come the start of next year we all start on zero again and the opportunity is there to try and improve and be stronger for what’s ahead.”
