A Scottish Championship game has been called off after one of the teams suffered a Covid outbreak.

Hamilton were due to play league leaders Arbroath at Gayfield on Wednesday but Accies were left unable to fulfil the fixture after their squad was decimated by positive cases and close contacts.

The SPFL confirmed on Tuesday that a postponement request has been granted.

Rules state that a team has to have less than 13 players, including at least ten outfield players over the age of 18, to have a match it called off.

An SPFL spokesman said: “After reviewing the information provided by Hamilton Academical, their
cinch Championship match away to Arbroath on Wednesday December 29 has been postponed.

“A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.”

Arbroath are currently top of the Championship, three points ahead of second placed Inverness, with Hamilton in sixth place.
