Lennon Miller is determined to enjoy life on and off the pitch after being thrust into the Motherwell team at an early age.
The 17-year-old admits he still enjoys a “carry-on” in the youth-team dressing room despite becoming a key member of Motherwell’s first team.
Miller was this week named on the shortlist for the PFA Scotland SPFL Young Player of the Year award following an impressive breakthrough season.
Motherwell’s youngest ever player made his debut last season and started this term as a 16-year-old but he started in their first six victories and the team did not win for two months after he fractured a kneecap.
Fit-again Miller has re-established himself as a key player after four months out of the starting line-up.
But he still gets the chance to enjoy his youth with his peers despite having the full trust of his experienced team-mates.
Speaking of his nomination, Miller said: “It’s obviously nice to get the recognition from your fellow players.
“It’s gone a lot better than I could have imagined, to start the season playing games and to feature so much.
“To get that injury was a low point in the season but I have come back and got myself back in the team.
“I just go on the pitch and try to enjoy the game as much as I can. I have just tried to take it in my stride and the experienced players have helped me with that.”
Miller added: “I feel like I’m a first-team player but I am still in the young boys’ changing room and I still enjoy speaking to them and getting a carry-on with them.
“I am still a young boy at the end of the day, and I am just trying to enjoy it as much as I can.”
Having found his feet in the first-team environment quickly, Miller feels he is beginning to find his voice.
“It helps getting the trust of your team-mates, they will give you the ball under pressure and know you will deal with it,” he said. “That has definitely helped me.
“Obviously confidence comes with games and I feel I have got more vocal, even around the changing room.”
