Steven Gerrard believes new signing Juninho Bacuna can be a big player for Rangers and is someone the supporters should be excited about seeing at Ibrox.
The midfielder completed his transfer to the Premiership champions on Thursday, moving from Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee.
Rangers manager Gerrard, who has been keen to bolster his midfield options for some time, said that he believed the move could bring out the best in the 24-year-old and allow him to develop into a top class player.
“He’s a really big talent,” Gerrard said. “Everyone should be really excited and looking forward to seeing him play.
“We’ll have to be patient with him since he hasn’t played much football of late, his last game was the 15th June.
“We believe he’s a big talent who just needs the right support around him and the right environment to keep progressing and growing. I believe we’ve got the right staff and players in the dressing ground to help him.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing him play. He’s an attacking midfielder with a good range of passing and he’s a powerful boy. He’s got a lot of tools in his locker and if he can put everything around that and we can give him the right place to evolve then he should be a big player for this club.”
Rangers fans shouldn’t have too long to wait to see the new signing in action, though he won’t be making his debut in Sunday’s Premiership match against Ross County in Dingwall.
“We won’t be throwing him right into the mix,” Gerrard said. “We’ll be patient.
“He’ll get some fitness assessments on him this morning to see where his level is at but he’ll be within the group very shortly, whether it’s next week or after the international break.”
