Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is set to become the new manager of Alloa Athletic.
Ferguson is expected to be named as the new boss of the League One side on Tuesday and will take up his duties at the start of June, after his contract with current club Kelty Hearts expires.
The 43-year-old had been in charge at Kelty since 2018 and has enjoyed a successful season with the Fife club. Kelty went into the pyramid play-offs as Lowland League champions and beat Highland counterparts Brora Rangers before defeating Brechin in the final to win a place in League Two from next season.
That success has drawn the attention of other clubs but Ferguson has chosen Alloa as his next destination. The former Clyde boss will now aim for promotion from League One after Alloa’s relegation this season.
The Wasps had confirmed in April that Peter Grant would leave his role as manager at the end of the campaign.
Ferguson made his name as a player with Rangers and Blackburn Rovers, winning five Scottish titles, five League Cups and five Scottish Cups, as well as 45 international caps.
The former midfielder moved into management with Clyde in 2014 and took over at Kelty in 2018.
