Aberdeen have put Barry Robson in charge of the first team while the club searches for a successor to Jim Goodwin.
Goodwin was sacked in the immediate aftermath of Aberdeen’s 6-0 defeat to Hibs on Saturday, a result that followed on from a 5-0 defeat at Hearts and a shock 1-0 loss to Darvel in the Scottish Cup.
While the Aberdeen board hunt for a new permanent manager, former Dons player Robson has been asked to manage the first team as they prepare for upcoming fixtures.
Robson will be in the dugout when St Mirren travel to Pittodrie for Wednesday evening’s Premiership match and could remain in charge beyond that. Aberdeen are at home to Motherwell on Saturday but then have a two-week break before facing Celtic at Parkhead.
The club also confirmed that Robson will be assisted by Steve Agnew, a coach who worked with him at Middlesbrough in his playing days, and Scott Anderson, who is currently part of the coaching set-up for the Aberdeen development teams.
A statement on the club website concluded: “An update on the search for a new manager will be communicated in due course, but in the meantime everyone at the club will get behind Barry and his coaching team who are fully focused on getting the team back on-track to achieving our goal of European football next season.”
Shortly after announcing Robson’s interim appointment, Aberdeen confirmed the signing of centre-back Mattie Pollock on loan from Watford.
A club statement read: “The Dons fought off stiff competition to land the 21-year-old, an aggressive, dominant defender, who was keen to secure regular first-team football experience.”
