Barry Robson ready to face ‘top guy and top coach’ Tony Docherty

Aberdeen manager Barry Robson can recognise familiar facets of Tony Docherty’s coaching in his Dundee side.

Former Dons assistant boss Docherty will bring a team to Pittodrie for the first time on Saturday after swapping his role as Derek McInnes’ right-hand man for the Dens Park hotseat.

Robson said: “A top guy, top coach, really pleased for him that he’s a manager now. He is someone I worked closely with for a lot of years and I learned from Tony.

“I know his team looks organised, I have watched a lot of them over the last couple of weeks. They are very good at set-plays, I think their last four goals have been set-plays so we know how difficult that is to manage.

“It’s a game we are really looking forward to. We are in a good place going into it so let’s impose ourselves on the game.”

Aberdeen have found form in recent week after a slow start to the season with a 3-1 victory over Rangers coming after back-to-back wins over Ross County.

They also had two promising performances against Eintracht Frankfurt and HJK Helsinki in the Conference League stages despite only gaining a point from their opening two games.

There last game before the international break was an underwhelming home draw with St Johnstone that leaves them eighth in the Premiership.

Such is the tightness of the early games, Robson’s side are only two points behind fourth placed Hearts but also only two points ahead of Ross County who are second from bottom.
