Motherwell have been dealt a “disappointing” blow with the news that on-loan star Mika Biereth has been recalled to his parent club.
The Denmark under-21 international has scored six goals in 14 Premiership games since joining from Arsenal in the summer.
But the Gunners are now bringing him back to London with another potential loan move, this time to Sheffield Wednesday, reportedly on the cards for the 20-year-old.
Biereth has been one bright spot for the Steelmen during a difficult season so far and they go into the second half of the campaign just two points off the relegation play-off spot, having played two more games than second bottom side Ross County, after only one win in their last 17.
Manager Stuart Kettlewell revealed the news on Thursday.
He said: “Mika has been recalled. It’s been a difficult one for us over the last 24 hours. It’s a major, major disappointment.
“This was a little bit unexpected. The conversation was that Mika would stay here until the end of the season just last week unless something big came on the table for Arsenal that they couldn’t turn down.
“They believe there’s an opportunity to send him to another club that takes him that step beyond where we are just now.”
