Kilmarnock captain Brad Lyons is glad of the quick chance to make amends for Sunday’s defeat by Rangers when Aberdeen visit Rugby Park on Wednesday night.

The 28-year-old midfielder left Govan “angry and frustrated” after the 3-1 deficit, which was only Killie’s third league loss of the season but the second set-back in a row.

Derek Cornelius’ maiden Gers goal in Danny Rohl’s first home game as Light Blues head coach after 15 minutes was cancelled out by Killie’s George Stanger.

However, five minutes after the break, Brazil striker Danilo restored the home side’s lead with a header and in the 72nd-minute, substitute Youssef Chermiti notched his first Rangers goal since his move from Everton in the summer, with Killie goalkeeper Eddie Beach at fault.

Stuart Kettlewell’s side have lost to Celtic, leaders Hearts and Rangers in this William Hill Premiership campaign to sit in eighth place and Lyons is looking to bounce back against the second-bottom Dons.

The Northern Ireland international said: “The thing with football is, you can never be too high or too low.

“We started the season well and picked up a lot of good results, along with some good performances.

“We know what we’re capable of and we know the quality we have in our dressing room.

“We’re not going to shy away from the disappointment of Sunday, but it’s a new one on Wednesday and that’s the joy of midweek football.

“You quickly get the chance to correct it.

“I’m just frustrated and angry. When you come to Ibrox, you need to be defensively solid to get a result.

“Yes, we weren’t pretty in possession but they never created much.

“The three goals they scored, when you break them down it’s just mistakes from us.

“When you come to a place like this, you can’t do that if you’re expecting a result.

“The boys hold their hands up. We’re all accountable for it. Again, we’re not blaming anyone. Anyone can make a mistake.

“But as the gaffer told us, we can’t let that sneak into Wednesday night or next Saturday.

“This is an important week for us and we need to dust ourselves down. We’ll analyse it and then hopefully correct it on Wednesday night.”

Lyons was particularly irked by the failure to keep the game at 1-1 for longer in the second half.

He said: “We were rubbing our hands at half-time. We thought that while we weren’t great, we were walking in at 1-1 and we were quite happy.

“We said at half-time, just try to keep it level for as long as possible.

“We knew there was a lot of frustration at this club (Rangers) and a lot of high expectations.

“We gifted them the second and then made it easy for them with the third – that’s the most frustrating thing.

“But we need to implement our style of play a lot more as well. It was a disappointing day all round.”
