Brandon McMullen shone with ball and bat as Scotland rebounded from back-to-back defeats in the ICC Men’s World Cup League Two by drubbing the United Arab Emirates in Utrecht.
After losing to the UAE and the Netherlands in Amstelveen in the last week, Richie Berrington’s side delivered the perfect response as they sealed an eight-wicket triumph on Wednesday.
McMullen and fellow opening bowler Brad Currie shared three wickets apiece as the UAE were skittled for 161 with 13 balls unused, a total that was knocked off with a whopping 25.4 overs to spare.
George Munsey’s 56 off 45 balls included five fours and three sixes to help the Scots make the ideal start to their chase while McMullen and Berrington put on an unbroken 60 to get them over the line.
McMullen struck 50 not out off 51 balls and Berrington an unbeaten 35 off 28 as Scotland moved up to fourth in the overall table – above Oman on net run-rate – in their defence of their title.
