Danny Rohl has named his Rangers side for the Europa League match against Brann in Norway, making two changes for his first game in charge and starting Youssef Chermiti in attack.
Rohl was appointed as Rangers boss on Monday, succeeding Russell Martin and tasked with turning around the side’s form after a disastrous spell under the former Southampton manager.
The new head coach has set his sights on a positive start and hopes to deliver a first three points of the League Phase of the continental competition. Rangers lost to Genk and Strum Graz in their opening two matches.
Rohl had said that fans should expect changes to his side after a few days on the training ground with his squad and he has opted for an attacking side.
Jack Butland starts in goal behind a back four of Jayden Meghoma, Nasser Djiga, JOhn Souttar and captain James Tavernier.
Nico Raskin, Joe Rothwell and Thelo Aasgaard are the midfield trio, while Djeidi Gassama and Oliver Antman are in the wide positions either side of Chermiti.
Speaking ahead of the game, Rohl said that although he had only enjoyed limited time with his new squad, he had emphasised the changes he wants to see based on videos he’s watched of the team so far this season.
“A big topic on Tuesday was our speed-up moments in possession,” Rohl said. “About how we want to attack spaces.
“On Wednesday, we looked at the opponent and how we want to attack. We also spoke about five letters – SILAS – sprints, intensity, last step in duels, aggressive and swarm because we want to do all these things together. If we do that, we’ll have a good chance of taking something.”
