Brendan Rodgers will miss Celtic’s trip to Livingston on Sunday having been handed a SFA ban following his recent statements over the quality of refereeing, which he described as “really, really poor” and “absolutely shocking decision-making” after a 2-0 loss to Hearts.
He was found guilty at an SFA hearing on Thursday and given a one-match penalty with an additional game suspended. This means that while he will miss the dugout at Livingston, he is in the clear for the Rangers clash at Ibrox the following Sunday.
The sanction was imposed for breaching Rule 72, which forbids criticising match officials “in such a way as to indicate bias or incompetence”.
The Scottish Football Association’s website stated that the outcome was proved and that: “Two match suspension applied as follows: One match immediate and one match suspended until the end of season 2023/24. Suspended sanction applicable only should Brendan Rodgers further breach Disciplinary Rule 72 within this period.”
Rodgers has five days to lodge an appeal.
