Brora Rangers are still in dreamland after one of the biggest Scottish Cup upsets in history with their win over Hearts.
For the Brora players, it was a victory they truly deserved.
Electrician Jordan Macrae scored the opener in the first half. Hearts scrambled an equaliser before fellow sparky Martin Maclean hit the winner.
Fans of the Cattachs, shut out of the ground due to the pandemic, continued the celebrations on Wednesday.
Brora manager Steven MacKay was also still smiling despite only getting two hours’ sleep. He made a nearly four-hour drive back to Fife after the final whistle to make sure he could get to his work in Dunfermline on time.
He said: “In a normal season this would have been an astronomical result but you throw in the circumstances that surrounded this game: we haven’t played since the first week of January, we have had five training sessions and one friendly and that’s it.
“We had no right whatsoever to win this game but the character of this group of players is unbelievable and I’m so privileged to be the manager of such an incredible team.
“You won’t believe me, but I said in the dressing room I had a funny feeling we could do something tonight.
“This will come as a massive shock to most but internally we had an inkling that we could do something special.”
Brora had not played since their 2-1 first-round win against Camelon on January 11, hours before Scottish football was suspended below the top two men’s divisions.
Brora now become the favourites with Dudgeon Park hosting the visit of League 1 Stranraer in the next round.
