Callum Davidson aiming for Premiership return with Queen's Park

Callum Davidson has eyes on a return to the Premiership after returning to football to take on the manager’s role at Queen’s Park.

After narrowly missing out on promotion to the top division last season, the Spiders have found it tougher going this campaign and currently sit in the ninth place in the Championship.

But the former St Johnstone boss is confident they can turn things around and then get themselves back in contention to mix it with the big boys.

“What I like about Queen’s Park is they’re building it foundations first, then moving up the way. It’s not the other way around.

“So you might be a quick hit up there, but we want to be there and sustain ourselves there. So that’s the key.

“It’s difficult because it’s very hard to do, but hopefully we’ve started and hopefully yeah, it might take a wee bit of time but, hopefully we can get there sooner rather than later. “

A win over Dunfermline last week moved them off the bottom of the division and ahead of Arbroath on goal-difference.

And while Davidson insists the priority is making sure they stay in the Championship this season, he has seen enough from his new players to be confident they have what it takes to get themselves up the table in the second-half of the season.

He said: “Short term, obviously is basically obviously staying in the league to start with.

“Where we are we’ve had a look at it, if I look at a lot the games they’ve played, there’s a lot of good stuff there.

“It’s just trying to sort of tweak it and make sure we’re still trying to play a certain type of football, but also win games at the same time.”
