Celtic were “a team of individuals” in the Old Firm defeat to Rangers, insists Callum McGregor.
The midfielder was scathing in his assessment of the 3-0 loss at Ibrox on Sunday that saw Martin O’Neill’s side dumped out of the Premier Sports Cup at the quarter-final stage.
A double from Dan Neil, as well as a first Gers goal for Kevin Kelsy ensured Derek McInnes earned a victory on his managerial debut in the fixture.
Celtic face Rangers at Celtic Park on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership and the Hoops skipper is adamant his side must learn quickly after an “unacceptable” defeat at Ibrox, saying: “The difference between the two sides was you seen a team and then you seen a team of individuals as well.
“Rangers were a team and you could see that. We looked like a team of individuals who wanted to do their own thing, play when we got the ball and not necessarily run when you don’t have the ball.
“That’s one thing you can’t do when you come here is just don’t run. You can’t defend with six players, it’s impossible. We are trying to get the message to everyone that we have to be a team. We have to be the team that we want to be.
“We need to find a way to do that quickly because we lost a big game in LASK, we lost another big game today and it’s not acceptable.”
Celtic face Hungarian side Ferencvaros in their opening Europa League fixture on Thursday, before welcoming Rangers to the east end of Glasgow on Sunday.
