Callum McGregor: Ibrox showdown won't decide if Celtic or Rangers win the trophy

Celtic captain Callum McGregor doesn’t believe Sunday’s Old Firm match at Ibrox will decide the Premiership title, but he’s aiming for three points to help his side close in on their targets.

McGregor and his teammates head across the city to face Rangers with a three-point advantage at the top of the league table, and a favourable goal difference, with a win putting them six points clear with six games left to play.

Despite that incentive, the Celtic skipper is wary of putting to much significance on the result, knowing that there could yet be twists and turns in the final stretch.

“Sunday’s a big game, hopefully we can get maximum points which would put us in a great position, obviously with a few games remaining,” McGregor said.

“Again we have to see what the task is, see how the game goes, then at the end of the 90 minutes we will see where we are.

“But by no means is it going to define where the title goes, there’s still a lot of football to be played.”

Celtic were 3-0 winners at Parkhead in February but Rangers came out on top when the teams met at Ibrox, with Filip Helander scoring the only goal of the game.

McGregor says the team have to be ready for whatever is thrown at them if they are to win.

“These games have a funny way of throwing up something different so you have to be ready for that,” he said.

“The experience we have gained this season should hopefully stand us in good stead come the weekend.

“If we face a different challenge we think we have enough to overcome that.

“We have to go there, be men and stand up and be counted so come the weekend we will be giving everything we can to make sure it’s a positive result.”
