Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers will miss his team’s match against St Johnstone this weekend due to a toe injury.
The 26-year-old is also in doubt for Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
Brendan Rodgers confirmed on Friday that the centre-half has been playing with some discomfort in recent weeks and was in pain during Celtic’s 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava.
He missed the side’s League Cup win over Falkirk and has now been ruled out of the trip to Perth on Saturday and will be assessed over the coming days before a decision is made for Dortmund.
The Celtic manager said: “Cameron misses tomorrow, he’s got a bit of pain on his big toe and the joint there, so we just have to look at that before each game.
“He’s been playing with it for a little while, but we just have to manage it now because he was in pain during the Bratislava game.
“Hopefully that will settle down quite quickly and we will see where he is at for Tuesday.
“It’s difficult to tell (if he will be fit for Dortmund) we just have to concentrate on the St Johnstone game really then see where he is at over Sunday and Monday.”
Rodgers does not believe the injury will require any major treatment.
“It’s not that, it’s just the tolerance of pain,” he said. “He’d gone through a lot and pushed him through a lot, but it’s not getting any better and he was having to go through too much pain really.
“He’s a tough character, Cam, but we just felt that it’s obviously one of those ones that with rest it will self-correct.
“But there comes a point where you could just see he wasn’t quite at the level that he would want to be at and I would want him to be at, and when it’s at that point you want to take him out and let him recover.”
Missing the USA international will be a blow for the Hoops but they have received some good news that first choice right-back Alistair Johnston, who also missed the win over Falkirk, has returned to training and will be involved against the Saints.
Rodgers continued: “That’s great, the Falkirk game gave us a chance to rest a couple that had little niggles and other players the chance to come in, so yeah, Alistair has trained all week and been good.”
