Celtic will play English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in a friendly in Ireland.

The same fixture was originally supposed to take place in South Korea during the club’s tour of Asia this summer, but that was cancelled after both teams pulled out over issues with the promotor.

Brendan Rodgers side will now take on the Midlands club at the Aviva stadium in Dublin on July 29.

It will be the fifth time the Hoops have played at the Republic of Ireland’s national stadium since 2011 after taking on Inter Milan, Liverpool, Barcelona and an Irish league select in previous visits.

Wolves, who are managed by Julen Lopetegui, finished 13th in the Premier League last season and will provide a good test for the Scottish champions on their return from Japan.

Celtic announced the game on Wednesday morning.

Saying: “We are delighted to announce that #CelticFC will be visiting Dublin, Ireland this July for an exciting pre-season game with English Premier League side, Wolverhampton Wanderers.”
