Brendan Rodgers has been named Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month.

The Celtic boss wins his first award since returning to Hoops to replace Ange Postecoglou in the summer after a spell in England with Leicester City.

Rodgers has led the champions back to the top of the league with an unbeaten start as they look to retain their title.

The award is for the month of September when Celtic recorded victories over Motherwell, Livingston, Dundee and most notably a win over city rivals Rangers at Ibrox to build up a four-point lead at the top.

The lead has now extended to seven points ahead of the Scottish Premiership campaign resuming after the International break.

The Parkhead side have seven wins and a draw from their eight matches league played so far despite a mini-injury crisis that saw them without a string of central defenders, including Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki, Nat Phillips and Stephen Welsh, for key games.

On winning the award, Rodgers said: “I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of the players and my backroom team. We have enjoyed a very successful September with some excellent performances leading to very positive results in the League.

“Although it is early in the season, everyone is getting to know my way of working and the players’ togetherness and application has been tremendous. Even in the face of some significant injury challenges, the whole squad has stood up extremely well with so many players making important contributions.

“Our focus now will be to continue this good work as we face some tough tests ahead.” I would also like to take this opportunity once again to thank our fans for the great positive support they continue to give to the team.”

Celtic return to action this weekend following the international break as they travel to Edinburgh to take on Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday.
