Celtic captain Callum McGregor says they're 'ready and hungry' in treble hunt

Celtic captain Callum McGregor says his teammates are ready and hungry for success as they look to complete the domestic treble.

With the League Cup already in the Parkhead trophy cabinet, Ange Postecoglou’s side are currently top of the Scottish Premiership and face Rangers in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.

McGregor says the title run is a period he and teammates should relish, and says they’re ready to step up as they enter the business end of the season.

He said: “It’s exciting times, this is what you want as a professional footballer at a big club where you are expected to win things.

“This is the most exciting period.

“The players look ready, they look hungry, they are training well and we are looking forward to the game on Saturday against Ross County.”

McGregor was helping launch the ‘Billy Against Dementia’ charity golf day and dinner – named after Celtic’s greatest ever captain Billy McNeil.

Having taken the armband at Parkhead this season, the 28-year-old is relishing captaining his boyhood club as they compete for the domestic treble.

He added: “You have to embrace that, the club have had success over a huge amount of time

“The guys who were standing in my shoes, I’m now standing in their shoes and I have a responsibility to make sure that it goes the right way.

“I’ll take that responsibility every day and try to help the players in any way that I can.

“I’ll try and live my life the right way so that when the big games come around you’re in peak physical condition.”
