Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Motherwell star David Turnbull a year after a knee problem prevented a transfer to Glasgow’s east end.
Talks between the Premiership sides are progressing well with Celtic hopeful of agreeing a fee and deal this week.
The Scottish champions made a move to sign Turnbull last June, with Motherwell set to receive a club record fee in the region of £3m for the player.
However, after a four-year deal had been agreed, a knee problem was discovered during the 20-year-old’s medical. He was sent for surgery and the deal cancelled.
Turnbull has since returned to action with the Steelmen and Celtic have returned to the table.
Speaking last year before the move collapsed, Celtic boss Neil Lennon said: “He sees Celtic as a great pathway for him to progress in his career.
“He’s a very good Scottish talent that we want to nurture.
“He’s a player we’ve admired for a while. He had a great breakthrough season.
“He’s an elegant player, technically he’s very good, proficient with both feet and he scored 15 goals in 30 games, which is quite a return for a midfielder.”
