Celtic have completed the permanent signing of defender Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The popular 24-year-old centre half made 49 appearances for Ange Postecoglu’s side during a loan spell last season as they completed a Premiership and Premier Sports Cup double.

The American international told the club’s website he “could not be happier” with the move, adding the desire to play Champions League football next term swayed him on the deal.

Carter-Vickers said: “I have loved every minute of my time at Celtic so far and I really wanted to be part of the club’s future.

“We have a fantastic group of players at the club, we have a really good spirit and atmosphere among us and we all worked so hard together to deliver the league and League Cup success last season.

“We have so much to look forward to, we will aim to be strong again domestically and of course we look ahead with real excitement to the Champions League.

“I am delighted to be given this opportunity at a club of this stature and I will be doing all I can to play my part in bringing more and more success to our fans.”

The Spurs youth product made just five first team appearances for the London club in between spells on loan at Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City, Luton Town and Bournemouth.

He joined Celtic on transfer deadline day last summer and scored on his debut in a 3-0 victory over Ross County, going on to add three more over the course of the campaign – including an Old Firm derby winner against Rangers.

Carter-Vickers becomes the second acquisition of the summer after Daizen Maeda’s move from Yokohama F Marinos was made permanent last month.

Manager Postecoglu added: “This is a major acquisition for Celtic, really positive news for us and everyone at the club has worked so hard to make this happen.

“Cameron has given everything of himself to the club so far, demonstrating his real value to the team and to the way we play.

“He was vital to our success during the season, such a hard working player of real quality and he was an absolute model of consistency.”
