Celtic confirm Kyogo Furuhashi will miss up to seven games

Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi is expected to be sidelined for the next three to four weeks through injury.

Furuhashi was substituted during Japan’s win over China and limped off with an apparent knee injury, leaving Celtic with a wait to learn the extent of the damage.

The club could now be without the forward until the next international break, which will see him miss key games in Scotland and in the Europa League.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou said: “As everyone is aware, he picked up an injury while playing with the national team.

“We’ve got him back and initial assessment is that we’re looking at at least three to four weeks at this stage.

“It means he’ll miss the next few games but, at the same time, he’s pretty optimistic about working hard to get back.

“It’s disappointing, and disappointing for him, after he’s had a great start. It’s one of those things. We wanted to keep his form going and it helped us as well but it’s part of football that these things will happen.”

Over the next four weeks, Celtic play Ross County, Livingston, Dundee United and Aberdeen. Raith Rovers are the opposition in the League Cup on September 29.

Furuhashi will miss the start of the Europa League group stage with the team travelling to play Real Betis on Thursday and then playing Bayer Leverkusen at Celtic Park on September 30.

The Japan international has made an explosive start to life at Celtic, scoring seven goals for his new side already.
