Celtic confirm signing of Ireland forward Adam Idah from Norwich

Celtic have confirmed the signing of Republic of Ireland striker Adam Idah on loan from Norwich.

The 22-year-old joins for the remainder of the current campaign after being announced by the Hoops on deadline day

He becomes Celtic’s second signing of the January window as the champions strengthen their squad ahead for the rest of the season.

There is no option to buy the player at the end of the loan-term.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Idah said: “It’s such a huge club with such a big history behind it and I can’t even put into words what it’s like to be at Celtic.

“My family and my friends are all delighted that I’m here and I just can’t wait to get started. All of us back home support Celtic so it’s huge for me and I’m so excited to be here.

“I want to play games, I want to help this team and the aim for me is to win those two trophies and I want to score a lot of goals for this club.”

Idah has scored seven goals in 34 appearances for the English Championship side this season but has only started 12 games.

He made his international debut as a teenager in 2020 and has earned 22 caps and scored three goals in the green of Ireland with the latest coming in a friendly draw with New Zealand in Dublin at the end of last year.

The other two strikes came against Gibraltar and the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.

He will now compete with Kyogo Furuhashi and Hyeongyu Oh, who is currently at the Asian Cup, for the centre-forward spot as Brendan Rodgers’ side look to win their third league title in a row and retain the Scottish Cup they also won last season.

They currently sit five points clear at the top of the Premiership, with second placed Rangers having a game in hand, with 15 games remaining.
