Celtic are continuing negotiations with Rapid Vienna for the transfer of winger Nicolas Kuhn.

The Parkhead club opened formal talks earlier this week about a deal for the German as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his side for the second half of the season.

Khun has emerged as a target and discussions are ongoing, with the possibility that he could become the club’s first January signing.

The 24-year-old has made 22 appearances for the Rapid this season, scoring three goals and assisting seven more.

Kuhn is a product of the Ajax academy and played for the Amsterdam club’s youth side before being signed by Bayern Munich, initially on loan, in 2020. The attacker, who has played for Germany at every youth level up to Under-20s, was a regular in Bayern’s second team until 2022 when he made the move to Austria.

Celtic boss Rodgers has been clear about his desire for new players to improve his first team as they look to progress and he will be without several players when the squad returns from the winter break.

Marco Tilio, Yang, Oh, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate are all on international duty at the Asian Cup, while Nat Phillips has returned to Liverpool at the end of his loan deal.

Yosuke Ideguchi completed a move to Vissel Kobe earlier this week, having spent the last year on loan in Japan.
