Celtic have been knocked out of the Europa League after losing 3-1 at home to FC Copenhagen.
The Scottish champions drew 1-1 in the first leg last week and held a slight advantage going into the decisive match at Celtic Park but Copenhagen took their chances and progress to the last 16 of the competition.
After a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead on 51 minutes. Jozo Simunovic made a poor pass under pressure allowing Michael Santos to cut in from the right and though his pass was blocked by Christopher Jullien, the rebound fell to the forward and he finished beyond Fraser Forster.
Celtic looked stunned by the goal but worked their way back into the game with Tom Rogic forcing a save before Leigh Griffiths was brought on to add to the attack as they pressed for an equaliser.
With ten minutes to go, the opportunity came when, after a VAR review, Celtic were awarded a penalty for handball. Odsonne Edouard coolly scored from the spot and extra time was on the horizon.
Copenhagen responded almost instantly, Pep Biel finding plenty of space on the right and drilling a shot between Fraser Forster’s legs.
Celtic needed two goals to save their European campaign but the Danes put the result beyond doubt with two minutes of regulation time left. poor defending left Dame N’Doye with the ball in the centre of the penalty area and he made no mistake, scoring and sealing his side’s place in Friday’s draw.
