Celtic cruise to 6-0 Champions League win over KR Reykjavik

Celtic eased into the second qualifying round of the Champions League with a 6-0 victory over KR Reykjavic on Tuesday evening.

The Scottish champions made short work of their opposition in strange circumstances with the qualifier being settled in one game instead of over two legs, and played at Celtic Park behind closed doors.

Neil Lennon’s side were back in action after an enforced two-match absence due to Boli Bolingoli’s breach of coronavirus protocols. The defender was unsurprisingly left out of the squad for the return to play and certainly wasn’t missed as the team built an early lead.

Celtic were ahead after just five minutes when Mohamed Elyounoussi raced on to a long pass from Christopher Jullien, rounding the keeper and slotting home. An own goal from Arnor Aoalsteinsson put the hosts 2-0 up in the 18th minute.

There seemed little likelihood of KR mounting any comeback even with an hour to go but Celtic pushed home their advantage with Jullien heading in from a Ryan Christie corner after 31 minutes. Odsonne Edouard and Elyounoussi had further chances but couldn’t add to the score befor half time.

Celtic continued to dominate after the break and Greg Taylor added the fourth with a headerjust two minutes into the second half.

Edouard finally got on the scoresheet with 20 minutes left to go, dancing past three defenders before picking his spot. The Frenchman was replaced soon after with Albian Ajeti making his debut and Patryk Klimala also coming on.

Both were keen to join the scoring but it was Elyounoussi who wrapped up the results with the sixth goal. He got on the end of an Olivier Ntcham pass to end the action.

Celtic will face Ferencvaros or Djurgardens in the next round.
