Celtic are negotiating with VVV Venlo over the transfer of striker Georgis Giakoumakis with talks over the move now at an advanced stage.
The club have been given permission to speak to the Greek international and are close to agreeing personal terms with the player.
Giakoumakis, who scored 26 league goals for the Dutch side last season, has emerged as the top target to add to manager Ange Postecoglou’s attack and a deal is being pursued before the transfer deadline on Tuesday.
The move comes as speculation continues over French striker Odsonne Edouard’s future at Celtic, with the player keen to move to a bigger league. Fellow striker Leigh Griffiths could also be heading for the exit door, with Dundee in talks over a loan bid for the player.
Giakoumakis began his career in the Greek lower league but got his big move to AEK Athens in 2017. The forward failed to hold down a first team place in Athens and had loan moves at OFI and Gornik Zabrze before his switch to VVV, where he became a prolific scorer.
