Celtic are in talks with Liverpool over a deal to sign defender Nat Phillips on loan.
The Scottish champions have been hit with a series of injuries to centre-backs, with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh all ruled out for the next eight weeks.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted the club will be going into the transfer market to address gaps in the squad before Friday’s deadline, and Phillips has been identified as a target.
Discussions have taken place with the Anfield club and Phillips could move north on a six-month loan deal in time for Sunday’s Old Firm derby against Rangers at Ibrox.
Phillips signed for Liverpool in 2019 and has played 19 times in the Premier League, as well as making five Champions League appearances.
The 26-year-old also has two loans spells under his belt, having spent a season in Bundesliga 2 playing for VfB Stuttgart, and half a season in the Championship with Bournemouth.
Phillips’ father Jimmy is a former player, who spent a year with Rangers under Graeme Souness in the 1987-88 season.
