Celtic have lost the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie against Bayern Munich but a late Daizen Maeda goal in the 2-1 defeat keeps their hopes of progress alive.
Bayern controlled the majority of the play at Parkhead but a spirited Celtic performance saw the Scottish champions stay in the tie and put the Bundesliga side under serious pressure in the late stages of the match.
Celtic thought they had taken the lead within the first 30 seconds but Nicolas Kuhn’s powerful low drive was ruled out for offside.
The visitors took the lead just before half-time when Michael Olise fired an unstoppable effort past Kasper Schmeichel and into the top corner of the net.
Bayern took the lead four minutes after the break when Harry Kane was unmarked from a corner and volleyed in to make it 2-1.
Daizen Maeda continued his impressive recent form when he scored a close-range header with just over ten minutes to set up a thrilling finish.
Celtic threw everything at the German side in the closing minutes but couldn’t find a leveller and will now face a tough task in the Allianz Arena next week, where they will need a win if they are to progress in the competition.
