Brendan Rodgers has named his Celtic side to face Sturm Graz in the Europa League, with Alistair Johnston returning to the team.

The Canadian right back has been sidelined since August through injury but will not look to help his side turn around a poor run of form and deliver an important European result.

The Premiership champions started their campaign with a draw against Red Star in Belgrade but lost at home to Braga last time out in the competition. They now face a Sturm Graz side that defeated Rangers 2-1 on matchday two.

Celtic are also aiming to bounce back from a domestic defeat to Dundee that has continued a string of disappointing performances.

Rodgers has continued with Kasper Schmeichel in goal, behind a back four of Kieran Tierney, Liam Scales, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Johnston.

Reo Hatate, captain Callum MacGregor and Arne Engels are in midfield, while Sebastian Tounekti and Benjamin Nygren are either side of Kelechi Iheanacho in attack.

Speaking before the match, Rodgers said he was doing everything he could to improve results.

“In terms of personnel, and team shape, it is something we are constantly looking at,” he said. “You are always wanting to find some level of stability, we have obviously had important players out as well, which can make a difference to our level.

“Stability is important, and that allows to find a tempo and dictate the speed of a game that you actually want and to deliver the best performance that you can.

“I will never stop, I am so motivated to try and find the solutions to find a way and to use my experience to help us get there.

“It’s not meant to be easy, it’s not always just about winning trebles and doubles, sometimes you have to stand up and fight, or else it’s over, and that’s clearly not what we want.

“We are a remarkable club, and one I am privileged to manage, in this tough moment, and it is tough, I need to stand up and see where we can improve.”
