Celtic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that the club will contest Albian Ajeti’s simulation charge at a Scottish FA disciplinary panel next week.
Ajeti received a notice of complaint this week, alleging that he had ‘dived’ to win a penalty during Celtic’s 4-0 win against Kilmarnock on Tuesday.
The Switzerland forward had gone down under a challenge from Kilmarnock goalkeeper Colin Doyle, prompting referee Kevin Clancy to point to the spot.
Lennon was adamant that the right decision was made at the time and that Ajeti hadn’t sought to deceive the referee.
“It is a penalty,” he said. “He has had contact to the back of his foot/ankle.
“The keeper has made contact, he has gone down, the referee has given a penalty. I don’t see any simulation.
“Simulation is where there is no contact. There is obvious contact, you can see that quite clearly.
“I don’t understand why these charges have been brought up against Albian, we don’t agree with at all so we will be appealing it of course.”
Celtic will now argue their case in front of an independent panel on Monday, February 8.
