Celtic have lost 2-0 to Lazio in their Champions League match in Rome, ending the club’s hopes of European football after Christmas.
Brendan Rodgers’ side needed to win in Italy to have a chance of even a consolation place in the Europa League but defeat leaves them with just one point from five games and with no prospect of climbing off the bottom of the group table.
The Scottish champions had stayed level with Lazio until the 82nd minute when Lazio talisman Immobile, who had come off the bench, pounced on a deflected ball and hit a half-volley past Joe Hart to give his side the lead.
Three minutes later he put the result beyond doubt, making space for himself before rifling another accurate finish low into the net.
Celtic thought they had a glimmer of hope when they were awarded an injury time penalty for a foul on Oh, but a VAR check overturned the decision and their defeat was confirmed moments later.
The Hoops will now face Feyenoord at Celtic Park in their final group game on December 13 knowing they can’t progress in continental competition.
