Celtic’s Marco Tilio has signed a new loan deal with Melbourne City to remain with the Australian club for the new A-League season.

Tilio spent the second half of last season back on loan at the club where he rose to prominence and he’ll now spend another year in his homeland.

The 22-year-old signed for Celtic last summer for what was reported to be a record fee for an A-League player. Tilio put pen to paper on a five-year deal

He made just two appearances for the Scottish champions, coming on as a late substitute in games against Motherwell and Hibernian.

The Australia international had injury problems during his loan spell and was restricted to just four A League appearances, scoring once.

“I’m so happy that I can extend my stay at City,” Tilio said. “This club has always felt like home to me, and I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and contribute to the team.

“Last season was a difficult one for me with injury, but I’ve been working hard to come back stronger and I’m looking forward to making more memorable moments together with my teammates and the City fans.”
