The future of the Commonwealth Games appears more certain after the next host city, after Glasgow 2026, received executive board approval.

Amdavad, also known as Ahmedabad, in the Indian state of Gujarat, has been recommended as the host of the 2030 centenary games.

Doubt had been cast over the future of the multi-sport event after Glasgow stepped in last year to host a scaled-back version after the original hosts faced financial troubles..

Glasgow will host the event for the second time in 12 years, with over 3,000 of the world’s top athletes from 74 nations and territories set to descend on the city next summer.

The 23rd edition of the Games will begin on July 23 and run until August 2, with 133 sessions of sport, including more than 50 medal sessions.

Over 200 gold medals will be up for grabs across ten sports and six Para sports.

The Australian state of Victoria was originally named as hosts for 2026, but pulled out in 2023, citing rising costs as their reason for withdrawing.

Now, Amdavad has been announced as the recommended host of the games in five years’ time.

India and Nigeria had both submitted formal proposals to host the games before the deadline of August 31 this year.

It was also announced earlier this year that Malta will host the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in late 2027.

Glasgow’s competition schedule, which was released on Tuesday, has revealed when and where the action will unfold across four venues.

The announcement comes as fans have less than 48 hours left to register for exclusive access to the ticket pre-sale starting on October 21.

Fourteen medals will be awarded on the opening day, with the very first going to Para Powerlifting in the SEC Armadillo, marking the first time a Para sport has opened the medal tally at a Commonwealth Games.
