Connor Barron is happy to take tuition from new interim Rangers boss Barry Ferguson.

The 22-year-old, signed from Aberdeen last summer, returned after a being out injured since January for the Europa League clash with Fenerbahce on Thursday night and helped the Light Blues to a stunning 3-1 win in the first leg of their last-16 clash.

Barron revealed former Rangers captain Ferguson, who starred as a midfielder with the Ibrox side and Scotland, has taken him under his wing.

He said: “He’s been brilliant, he looks to improve me as a player which is great.

“We’ve been on the training pitch after training a few times and I have just tried to pick up everything I can.

“Anything I can pick up from him is going to benefit me as a player. I can’t thank him enough for that.

“He’s a legend in Scotland with this club. I watched some of his clips when I knew he was coming in to see what sort of player he was.

“I was a bit young to see that but obviously a top, top player and a great guy as well.

“I just need to continue to improve and he is on the same page as well. It is brilliant to have that.”

Barron was already working on his game before Ferguson was installed as temporary boss following the sacking of Philippe Clement two weeks ago.

The playmaker was injured in the 2-1 Europa League phase defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford and was delighted to return to action in Turkey and admitted he evaluated football from another perspective while sidelined.

He said: “Obviously being out for a while, it was great to come in and play 90 minutes in a good team performance and a great result.

“No injury is nice but it is how you react to it and what you learn when you are injured.

“It was nice to see things form a different angle. I studied the game a lot and picked up on different parts of my game I can improve on and I feel a lot better for it.

“You pick up on a lot, you analyse it more, see it from a different angle in the stands, and see things you can do better.

“Obviously you look at nutrition side as well, anything you can do better to make yourself a better professional.”

Barron believes it is imperative that Rangers start sprightly against the Turkish outfit as they bid to reach the quarter-finals.

He said: “It’s only half-time. As a footballer you know that football can change, you’ve got to do your job properly like we did on Thursday.

“We showed what it’s like when we start quick. That has got to be the way the way we play going forward.

“I think we started slowly too many times this season and it cost us or we have had to get ourselves back into the game. But I think we showed that if we start quick, we get results.”
