Connor Barron: I'll ignore critics to be a success at Rangers

Connor Barron has thanked Aberdeen for helping with his development – and says he’ll ignore any supporters who give him flak over his move to Rangers.

The midfielder moved to join Philippe Clement’s side after his contract expired at the end of the season, though Rangers and Aberdeen have failed to agree compensation and look set for a tribunal to determine a fee for the move.

Barron paid tribute to everyone at his former club for helping him progress in his career but said he was now raring to go in Glasgow and looking to help his new club as they look to win trophies.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here,” the 21-year-old said. “I’ve settled in very quickly with the boys and we’ve all hit the ground running. It’s a pleasure for me to be here at this club and I can’t wait to get going.

“There’s a lot of factors [behind the move]. It’s such a great club with great people and staff, and a great following. The decision was made easy and as soon as I spoke to the club it was the only place I wanted to be.

“As a player you’ve got to do things for yourself in your career sometimes. You’ve got to do what’s best for your career at the right time.

“I pay my thanks to Aberdeen who have obviously brought me up from a boy to where I am today. So I thank them for everything they have done to get me here in my career but the next chapter now is Rangers Football Club.”

Players who have made the move from Pittodrie to Ibrox in the past, such as Ryan Jack and Scott Wright, have taken abuse from Aberdeen fans unhappy at seeing a player come through the ranks before moving to a rival.

Barron says he isn’t aware of any flak but won’t let anything affect him giving his best for his new side.

“I haven’t seen anything,” he said. “All I do is focus on my job on the pitch. I don’t go on social media or anything like that.

“That’s not my job. My job is to go out on the pitch and let my football do the talking.

“It doesn’t get to me. Not at all. When you’re at a club the size of Rangers you can’t let that get into your head and if it did then you’ve got a problem.

“I’m a big character myself. I’ve been through a lot in my career so far and experienced many things.

“There’s a lot more experiences to come and hopefully successful times ahead.”
