Scotland Women’s captain Rachel Corsie has called for the uncertainty over their head coach position to be resolved as soon as possible.

The team have been without a permanent boss since Shelley Kerr stepped down on Christmas Eve following failure to reach the European Championship finals.

Stuart McLaren, the head coach of Scotland’s under-16 boys’ team, took on the role on an interim basis and will take charge of Tuesday’s friendly against Wales in Llanelli.

The game will be Scotland’s final warm-up ahead of the start of their World Cup qualifying campaign in September and Corsie wants the situation sorted out after almost half a year of uncertainty.

“We hope that is a situation that we will have confirmed as soon as possible,” she said. “Everybody wants to know, the players, the press, the fans. We all want to have that security and know what is happening.

“Uncertainty is always something that makes everyone feel uncomfortable. Hopefully that is something that we can move on from soon.”

Scotland ended their European qualifying campaign with defeat by Portugal in February and Corsie is looking to use the summer games to reset before the next competitive fixtures.

A new-look Scotland side beat Northern Ireland last week, but Tuesday’s game offers the chance for the likes of Corsie to come back in and win her 123rd cap with September in mind.

“This camp has been important in building back into a style of play and feeling confident,” the Kansas City player said. “The first game was a real positive and this is another opportunity to build on that.

“I honestly feel this has been one of the most positive camps we have been involved with.

“It’s been great to have had new, young faces and Stuart has brought in new staff and the experience he brings, and the different style, is an opportunity to learn and challenge yourself.

“We have to look to improve. We understand that we were disappointed after the last camp and there is a big portion of that that we take responsibility for.”
