Craig Bryson has left Aberdeen after the club cancelled the 33-year-old’s contract.
The midfielder moved to Pittodrie from Derby County last summer but struggled with injuries.
Despite expectations of a big impact, the player failed to complete a 90 minute match during his time in the north-east.
Manager Derek McInnes said it was with a “heavy heart” that Aberdeen had come to this point with Bryson.
He added: “Throughout his time with us he has been faced with challenges but despite that he has put everything into trying to overcome those.
“Unfortunately, this has impacted the influence that both him and I wanted him to have on the team.
“This is through no lack of effort on Craig’s part, but we feel this is the best conclusion and we wish him well in his next move.”
Bryson was one of eight Aberdeen players who breached coronavirus rules by visiting a city centre bar in August.
