Craig Levein has been sacked by St Johnstone after a poor start to the season.
The club are looking for a new manager after defeat to Hibs on Saturday left the team tenth in the Premiership table and on a run of four straight defeats.
Andy Kirk has been placed in interim charge of the first team.
A brief statement on the club’s website read: “The board of directors can announce that St Johnstone Football Club has today parted company with manager Craig Levein.
“The football club would like to place on record its thanks to Craig for all of his efforts during his time at McDiarmid Park.
“A further update will follow in due course.”
Levein had joined the club last November with the former Scotland boss signing a two-and-a-half year contract. St Johnstone were bottom of the Premiership table when he took over but the experienced manager guided them to safety last season.
American businessman Adam Webb took charge of the club when he bought out Geoff Brown’s shareholding but he kept faith with Levein and allowed him to rebuild the squad through the transfer window.
However, Webb will now be looking to appoint his first manager at McDiarmid Park and hope to turn the side’s form around.
