Cricket Scotland has paused the recruitment process for a new chief executive and will not resume the search until a racism review has been published.
The sport has been rocked by allegations of racism, with former international players Majid Haq and Qasim Sheikh saying it was institutional and deep-rooted.
An independent review is ongoing and Plan4Sport has conducted a consultation exercise, that has included a plea for anyone involved in the sport who has witnessed or experienced racism to come forward under condition of anonymity if they want it.
The results of the review are expected to be published in July and Cricket Scotland said that they would wait until that process was complete before recruiting a new CEO.
Interim Chair of Cricket Scotland, Sue Strachan, said: “We interviewed several candidates late last month. However, as a Board we were clear from the outset that we had to be absolutely sure that we were in a position to appoint the right person for this important role, particularly given the timing of the independent review into racism in Scottish cricket.
“After careful and lengthy consideration, the Board has decided against making a permanent appointment at this time.
“Instead, we will wait for the independent review recommendations so that we are in the best possible position to appoint a candidate to lead our organisation during a period of real importance for Scottish cricket.
“Once the review is published, we will start a new recruitment process as a matter of priority.”
The new chief executive will be tasked with implementing any recommendations from the review, as well as improving the inclusivity and diversity within the organisation.
