Celtic have successfully appealed Daizen Maeda’s Champions League suspension meaning he will be eligible to play against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

The forward was set to miss the first leg of the playoff game after initially being banned for two games for his sending off in the victory over Young Boys.

But the Hoops revealed on Monday that he have won an appeal to reduce the suspension to one game.

Having missed out the final league phase game against Aston Villa he can now return to contention when they take on the Bundesliga giants.

Having Maeda will be a welcome boost to Brendan Rodgers with the 27-year-old in red-hot form having scored six goals in his last three games, including a hat-trick in the Scottish Cup win over Raith Rovers on Saturday.

Celtic confirmed the news in a statement released on social media, saying: “Celtic FC tonight confirmed that it has successfully appealed Daizen Maeda’s two match suspension.

“The original suspension has been reduced to one match, meaning Daizen is available to play on Wednesday at Celtic Park.”

The Scottish champions host Bayern Munich on Wednesday with the return leg in Germany taking place the following Tuesday.
