Dan Casey has turned down the opportunity to remain at Motherwell as he sizes up a move to England.
The Irish defender made 85 appearances for the Steelmen over the past two-and-a-half years after joining, initially on a short-term deal, in February 2023.
Well – currently without a manager – attempted to persuade Casey to stay beyond the expiry of his contract this summer, but the 27-year-old has opted to leave the Fir Park club.
“Dan Casey will not be returning to Motherwell for the 2025/26 season,” read a statement from Well on Monday.
“After offering Casey a contract at Fir Park, the Irish centre-back has decided to pursue options down in England.
“The club would like to thank Dan for his efforts and dedication in his time at Motherwell and wish him nothing but the best for the future.”
Casey, who played more minutes than any other Motherwell player in the season just finished, posted on X: “My time with Motherwell has come to an end. I’ve loved every minute of being here.
“Some of my favourite football memories were made here and I’ll always be grateful for that. A huge thank you to all the Motherwell staff, my teammates and especially the fans for everything.”
Motherwell are still searching for a new manager following the departure of Michael Wimmer more than a fortnight ago.
