Danny Rohl assured of Rangers job next season by board

Rohl is under pressure from fans after his side's recent losses against Motherwell, Hearts, and Celtic.

Danny Rohl has said he has the backing of the Rangers board to take the club forward next season despite the club’s title collapse.

A post-split collapse with defeats to Motherwell, Hearts and Celtic saw the German coach become the first Rangers manager in 26 years to lose three games in a row and ensured another trophyless season at Ibrox.

Fan pressure on the 37-year-old is intensifying, with reports also claiming Rohl is on a shortlist to take charge at Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

However, Rohl has insisted he will be in the dugout at Ibrox at the start of the new season.

“Yes,” he said when asked if he had been assured of his job next season. “I think in the last 48 hours, the support from the board has been unbelievable.”

“Everyone around me is seeing a lot of positive things, but we are also critical of ourselves.

“The most important thing is that we have to take all the information on what we need going into the new season.

“It’s not my job to measure criticism; anyone who knows me knows how I handle these situations. There is motivation to do it better and find solutions.

“I take responsibility for this. I stay in front of my crew. I’m the leader of this club.”

Rangers captain James Tavernier will play his final game at Ibrox against Hibs on Wednesday night after joining the side in 2015.

The Englishman has been the captain of Rangers since 2018 and has won one Scottish Premiership title, one Scottish Cup and one League Cup, but Rohl says his departure is a “great opportunity” for new leaders to step up.

“With Tav, we lose a captain, and it means for us a big signal that we need new leaders, more leaders for the dressing room, to set our standards of what we want, in the training pitch, in difficult moments in the game,” he said.

“I think this is crucial, and it’s a great opportunity to work on this.”
