Rangers head coach Danny Rohl admits players will have to “job share” to ensure their growing injury list does not deteriorate further.

Rohl could be without midfielders Joe Rothwell and Lyall Cameron for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Ferencvaros in Hungary.

And on the domestic front he is facing a period without winger Nedim Bajrami, who is not included in Rangers’ European squad.

Rohl said: “Joe is not with us. Lyall is with us, but is a big question mark. We have to do an assessment. Dujon (Sterling) is back in the squad. This is a good sign.

“He’s not available for Europe, but Nedim looks not so good. It’s hard. We thought after the game, it’s maybe not so serious, but at the moment it looks more serious.

“It looks like a muscle injury. Nedim felt not so bad, but the scan was not so positive and it’s the reason now we have to wait. We will check this one more time and then it’s week by week. Hopefully it’s not so long.

“At the moment we have a few more injuries. It’s not helpful, but we still have a good group.

“But of course it’s also important to manage some people at the moment. And this is our job, that we find the right players for this game.

“We have a challenge ahead of us. We want to get a good result here and for this, we have to do everything right.”

Rohl is already missing John Souttar, Derek Cornelius and Oliver Antman with muscle injuries, while Rabbi Matondo and Kieran Dowell have been out long term.

When asked what was causing the muscle problems, the German said: “If I had a clear idea, then I would change it. I think five weeks ago, we had no injuries. After the Dundee game, then our international players left the club, then they came back with injuries.

“It’s a little bit of everything. A lot of games. Of course, we increased our intensity.

“But we have other good news. Mikey (Moore) is back, that was a good sign. But he is a player that we have managed well now, that we cannot risk another big injury.

“It’s really about job-sharing at the moment. Let’s see who starts and who is available from the bench.”

Sterling is set to make his comeback from an Achilles injury which has kept him out for eight months.

Rohl said: “I have seen him in training and he’s a special guy. He’s brave, he knows what it means, but it’s also important that his body is ready.

“At the moment, I will not say a question mark, but after such a long injury without a game, then you know the first games are a little bit rusty, and it’s important that we get him as soon as possible in a good shape that he can go 45 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes. I think he will get some minutes.”

Rangers have collected just one point from five games and Rohl knows there is no room for error in Budapest.

“We know where we are in this competition,” he said. “We cannot afford one more defeat if we are thinking about going through to the next round. It’s also important to understand that we go in to win such a game.”
