David Goodwillie makes football return as disgraced striker on trial for Glasgow United SNS Group

David Goodwillie has returned to the football pitch as the disgraced former Scotland striker appears for ninth tier Scottish side in pre-season friendly.

The 34-year-old, who was ruled to have raped a woman in a civil court in 2017, has been unable to find a club since his move to Raith Rovers caused widespread controversy with sponsors, fans and high-profile supporters hitting out.

The news eventually led to him being released by the club after eight months without playing a game.

A loan return to Clyde, where he had been playing before the move to Raith, was then terminated for the same reason.

In February this year, he left Radcliffe FC less than 24 hours after his first appearance – following another widespread backlash over his signing before a move to Australia also fell through last month.

But he has now pulled on his boots again as he appeared as a trialist for West of Scotland Third Division club Glasgow United in their match against Pollok on Wednesday.

The game took place at Newlandsfield Park in Glasgow.
