Ally McCoist is to look back on his career as a Scotland player and reflect on his love of the national team in a new memoir that is to be published in October.
The former Rangers striker and now successful pundit played for Scotland 61 times, scoring at the European Championships and enjoying many memorable nights with the national team.
McCoist’s book, Dear Scotland: On the Road with the Tartan Army, will mix memories from his playing career along with his thoughts as he travelled with the Scotland fans to Euro 2024 in Germany.
McCoist said: “After a thrilling summer of following the football in Germany, I am so excited to announce that my first book, Dear Scotland, will be published by Hodder & Stoughton this autumn.
“In it, I will tell you all about how I fell in love with the Scottish national team, celebrate our small nation’s massive place in the game’s history, how my dreams came true when I played for the Tartan Army and many wonderful tales of playing for and standing with the greatest fans on the planet.
“Oh and AC/DC might get the odd mention too. I can’t wait for you to read it soon.”
Hodder & Stoughton reportedly acquired the rights to McCoists first book after a six-way auction and the publisher’s editorial director Huw Armstrong described the book as “heartwarming, fascinating and hilarious”.
“I don’t think there is anyone better at telling a story than Ally,” he said.
“You hang on every word and wait for every punchline. This book showcases what he is all about and why he is so loved.
“It is heartwarming, fascinating and truly hilarious. It is an honour to be publishing his first book and I can’t wait for it to be out there.”
McCoist, who was recently awarded an OBE in the King’s birthday honours list, will launch the book at an event at Mar Hall on October 25.
