Scotland face a wait to seal qualification for next year’s European Championships in Germany after defeat to Spain coupled with Norway’s win in Cyprus.
Alvaro Morata scored before Ryan Porteous put the ball into his own net as Scotland’s strong performance ended in a 2-0 defeat in Seville, while Norway cruised to a 4-0 win over bottom side Cyprus in Larnaca.
Those results mean that the Norwegians and Spain could still finish ahead of Scotland in Group A, despite Steve Clarke’s side having won five games in the campaign so far.
The national team had been on the verge of qualifying after their perfect start and knew that a point in Seville, or Norway dropping points, would have assured a place at Euro 2024.

Instead, Steve Clarke’s side still need a result to take that final step.
It could come as early as Sunday, when Norway host Spain. Anything less than three points for the Scandinavian side would allow Scotland to celebrate qualification.
Beyond that, a win away against Georgia or a draw at home to Norway would complete the task.
