Delight for St Mirren as Mark O'Hara signs new deal in Paisley

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson has expressed his joy as midfielder Mark O’Hara has signed a new long-term deal with the club.

The 27-year-old has been a mainstay in the St Mirren midfield as Robinson’s side has made a push for the top six and his consistent performances have made him a favourite in Paisley.

O’Hara has now extended his commitment by signing a two-year extension to his contract, tying him down until the summer of 2026.

Robinson said he was delighted to have completed a deal for another key player, just days after Trevor Carson put his name to a new contract.

“Mark is the epitome of the perfect footballer to manage,” the manager told the club’s official website.

“He’s been my captain all season when Joe [Shaughnessy] hasn’t been playing. You never get any hassle from him. He gets on with things, he plays wherever you ask him to play and however you ask him to play.

“He’s been fantastic and for us to tie him down for another two years is a great piece of business for the club.”

O’Hara said he had no hesitation in discussing a new deal after thoroughly enjoying his time in Paisley since making the switch from Motherwell last season.

After making 31 appearances this season, scoring seven goals, he feels at home in the team and the town.

“From the moment I stepped through the door here it’s felt like home and I’m happy to commit longer term and focus on my football,” the player said.

“I spoke with the manager, and he wanted to make it a longer term and it was something I was obviously very keen to happen. It’s local and everything works and I’m so happy to be here.

“The changing room is amazing, the staff are amazing and it really does feel like home. We’ve not achieved anything yet but there is a really good feeling about the squad and it’s something I’m enjoying being a part of.

“In football there is always a bit of uncertainty but the fact that I’m going to be here long-term is massive.”
